Welcome
Most of my work is encaustic, pigmented bees wax. It is actually an ancient art medium that is enjoying a "rebirth" in the art community (due to new products and tools that make working with this medium easier and safer). It is a very physical medium...the wax must be warmed to 180 degrees +/- and then worked into the image before the wax cools. After application, the freshly applied paint must be fused to the previous layer by heating (using a torch/iron/heat gun). This process is repeated until the painting is complete (my paintings average 30-50 layers). This unique medium allows for a diverse range of expression, huge 3D texture, glossy smooth surface and everything in between. Personally I am drawn to the translucency and luminosity that I have not been able to find in other mediums.
